Sales of existing homes in the West were up in August, from the same month of 2007, about the same amount they increased in metro Denver, according to a study released Wednesday by the National Association of Realtors .

The median, or middle, selling price for existing homes was down only about half as much in the Denver area as it was in the West for the same period.

western region includes Colorado as well as other states such as Wyoming, Arizona, Idaho and Nevada.

Existing-home sales, or resales, in the West increased 4.9 percent to 1.07 million in August from the same month last year, according to the report.

Existing homes — including single-family houses, condominiums, and co-ops — are those that have been sold at least once.

We have all heard and read the stories about how the real estate market is, or will be, slowing to a snails pace. For those who have been involved with real estate for awhile know that this is normal (and cyclical) in the real estate markets across the country, and, is commonly referred to as 'market normalization'.
